15 West 72nd Street,
New York, New York
Description: Mayfair Towers was built in 1964 on what had been the rose garden, the tennis courts, and then the parking lot of the Dakota. The building has recently been cited as a historic example of mid-20th Century Modern architecture. The entrance to this well-serviced coop is on 72nd Street between Columbus and Central Park West. When it was built, there were 497 apartments. Currently, because shareholders have combined 2 and 3 units to make larger homes, there are approximately 453. The building rises on three sets of floor plans (the base, to the 16th floor; the smaller intermediate level from floors 17 to 23; and the tower, floors 24 to 37) that give the building its name. 15 West 72nd Street is steps from the “Strawberry Fields” entrance to Central Park. It is convenient to the Broadway/7th Avenue and Central Park West/8th Avenue subway stations as well as to numerous bus lines. Wall-to-wall windows and hardwood floors are featured in every apartment. Upper floors have spectacular park and city views, and most 2-bedroom units have balconies. Building amenities include 24-hour doorman and concierge, washers and dryers on every floor, gym, valet with tailor, roof deck, children’s play yard, and garage. This building is handicapped accessible.
