MGM Armory Exterior Envelope Repair
Springfield, Massachusetts
Description: Built in 1895, the original four-story building was gutted to create a 4,000 SF high ceiling event space. A steel frame was added to support the 46 foot high exposed brick walls as well as the large turrets, which remained at the exterior, but were removed at the interior to create the open event floor. Audio-Visual connections were provided throughout to support event specific lighting and audio-visual installations. HAA designed five large (12 foot) diameter chandeliers for the space and coordinated a winch system to lift and lower the fixtures. The project also included the addition of restrooms, an entry vestibule, new flooring, window trim repair, a new roof and all new mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection. At the exterior, HAA facilitated the design and construction of new entries and a terrace that connect the Armory to the MGM Springfield outdoor Marketplace and Plaza with code compliant stairs and accessible ramps. The look of the new entryways and terrace was coordinated with the overall outdoor design to create a cohesive campus aesthetic.
