Volpe Transportation Center
Cambridge, Massachusetts
Description: We’re working with Turner Construction on 2 Phases of construction for the redevelopment of Volpe Transportation Center. Located on a 14-acre United States General Services Administration (GSA)-owned parcel in the heart of Kendall Square, the site is being redeveloped in multiple phases by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Per the GSA and MIT’s agreement, MIT is first constructing a new building to house the Volpe Center on a 4-acre section of the parcel, which will be owned by the GSA. With building heights ranging from 170 to 500 feet tall, MIT will develop housing, commercial and lab space, retail, open space, and other community use space on the remaining 10 acres of the Volpe Center.
Scope of Work: We performed soil inspections and compaction testing, including observation of excavation and backfilling with 1.5″ dense grade material at the Utility Tunnel. Work observed was in conformance with approved plans, specifications and applicable standards of workmanship. Learn more about Fenagh’s services here.
